Floating Homes on the Ocean

If you ever want to get off the grid or just live in the ocean, here is your chance. There is this new design UFO Floating house that is supposed to cater to your  need. The UFO homes is intended for ability to be off the grid and travel around the world. This is possible with the usage of  a waterjet-propelled “ Torqeedo Deep Blue 1800 electric motor”. The company also says an onboard water generator would be used for converting rain or seawater to fresh drinking water, as well as watering a vegetable garden located on a deck that encircles the structure and measures 41 feet in diameter.


The fiberglass make up an equivalent to two stories of the inside, with flexible floor plans for various changes. That consists of a transformable kitchen and dining/living area on the top level, with stairs leading down to submerged lower level with bathroom and bedroom surrounded by a large window so you can have sea animals watch you watch them.

HoverBoard Slide by Lexus

SLIDE, a hoverboard seen in Back to the Future II is worthy but, the Slide is getting there with a few  more improvements that can meet the same stylistically expectations. However the science bringing this science fiction invention to life is still pretty cool. As Lexus mention,  their new design is specialized and is still slowly in development.

The hoverboard hype does not exactly meet the expectations of hovering over ground but the Lexus Slide can. Although, the design is still being remodeled to be able to hover streets, it is in need of magnets and a specialized metal park to hover. According to Lexus,  the design consists of  bamboo and carbon fiber skateboard, with wisps of smoke, levitating around inch or two off the specially made ground.

According to the company’s briefly stated the materials, the device has its own “magnetic levitation” to maintain lift-off, which can be a form of levitating. The surface trickery for the hoverboard to operate is magnets or steel mixed in underneath the concrete, to give the hover in Lexus Slide. This is how the hoverboard relies on superconductors and magnets, which combines to repel the force of gravity and lift the board up in the air. Although the safety varies, it is quite new and can be mastered for skaters and such.

Is it A Bird. Is It a Plane. No Its the FlyBoard Air

The Flyboard was invented with a sole purpose of racing.  This revolutionizing idea is making it big with its water jet hoverboard. Invented by Frank Zapata, it has grown from a simple project into a full-fledged idea to a competitive sport. The Zapata Racing is prepared to revolutionize the sport, but this time with the FlyBoard Air, a hover board that gets rid and uses only air to zip you across the sky. If you ever dreamed about being a bird, look no further, a solution has come upon you.


The original design was groundbreaking, but its success was limited. It used a stream of high pressure water that pushed the rider multiple feet in the air to allow them to move up water. In order to generate this powerful thrust, the rider had to be connected to a personal long hose that carried the high-pressure water stream from the hose to the nozzles underneath the fly board. The pressure was adjustable, providing riders with control over the thrust so they could move themselves higher or lower as desired. The system was very maneuverable with advanced riders able to perform acrobatic maneuvers like flips, twists and turns in mid air.


In a demonstration video, Zapata is shown flying effortlessly over a body of water, reaching a height of 30 meters during the 3.5 minute flight. The project is still in its prototype stage and will continue to undergo testing and finalization for 2016. With a successful public flight, Zapata is now on par with two other engineers, who last year showcased their JB-9 jetpack by flying around the Statue of Liberty to continue on the Flyboard Air.


Engineering Skills needed to Stand Out

Modern day gives no certainty for young engineering’s that hope to work in one place to actually go through with it, because there is no guarantee an employer would want that let alone support retirement. In the engineering field, it’s no different, despite a history in which Baby Boomers were able to forge long, stable careers in the big-four engineering disciplines (civil, mechanical, industrial, and electrical). Engineering opportunity, of course, is still there.There is even a  huge demand for engineers is expected to grow by eleven percent, according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers that report engineering majors as rank second in the most in-demand skill sets. However, It’s not just a about the technical skills anymore even if it still holds an importance. Across all industries today, every employer looks for candidates with the more elusive soft skills.

To start, there must be a fundamental shift in the way we understand how work is getting done in the engineering environment today. Even with an abundance of jobs, this new dynamic is making the engineering labor market competitive, as we begin to understand that a job well done often requires far more changeable inputs in the way we relate to people and circumstances. So if engineers can master a dynamic set of both technical and soft skills, employers will consider them as a valuable team member and job candidate.

There are important movements that needs to always be updated in he engineering field, including an increasingly multi generational workforce and a global business climate in which project work with mobile teams.Baby Boomers that are more likely to be far more traditional in keeping their work and social lives separate, while new young workers are far more likely to think of work as an extension of their lifestyles. Employees who can bridge their communication styles with all kinds of colleagues are valuable to employers, who are equally challenged by this dynamic, multi generational mix of workers as well.

Semi-Conductors and Their Growth

Semiconductors continues to be a vast export product for the United States, according to the government export statistics. Semiconductors are essential products fueling U.S. jobs, economic growth, and innovation. They are used as a substance conductivity between that of an insulator and is found in electric chips or electronic products. The amount of semiconductors are the third-highest of any manufactured export product.

The semiconductors are ahead of other products such as telephones, computer equipment and communications equipment. The way semiconductors have maintained this leading position should never be forgotten. They have contributed so much to technology and its advancement and appearance throughout modern day.  One reason is because the United States remains a top location for U.S. semiconductor manufacturing. Although, it is somewhat harmful to the environment with the creation of semiconductors, Obama has created a policy in March 2016 that is allowing engineers to create alternative environmental actions.

The semiconductor market today is truly global, and to ensure U.S.-made semiconductors can reach all global markets, it is important that these foreign markets remain open. We have became the independent holder of semiconductors that most foreign countries still need. A huge company needed in China or any other country spans from IBM to Samsung.


Robots Run with Neural Network

Programming and Machines have begun initiating their shift towards artificial intelligence. The Neural Networks is one of the new trendiest programming language dealing with a version of machine learning research. Neural Network is an advance programming language that mimic the nervous system and brain of a human. It can even be considered as one of the hottest topics in machine learning research today. According to Mendeley.com, many big tech companies like Google, Facebook and Baidu are recently jumping into this field of research.

Neural Network is believed to be highly influential to benefit human life in the near future. Robots that are programmed with neural network are going to be automated to do tasks with negligible margin of error. As many have predicted our futures being surrounded by robots, is no longer impossible. Neural network programming has offered a way for robots to be an incomparable version with humans.

The form neural network does not take a human brain form but have complicated systematic formatting. Mainly using statistical analysis, neural network helps determine a human like response based on data to mimic a similar response. Neural network is being explored, who knows what Neural Network is capable of aiding the inventions/ robots of the future.

Children of Engineering

Children are becoming more creative than ever. After the stump period of inventions, kids have now been able to use their imagination and creativity to make new inventions for the future. As they grow up into teenagers those ideas slowly become a reality and benefit society in an engineering way. This is why you are able to see these children inventors of 2016 that is able to code apps or make life changing inventions that contribute to health.


The study with AMSE (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) and EiE ( Engineering in Ele.), they observe kids thinking process in which they take turns presenting pieces of data that support their own thoughts, engaging in a practice that is critical for engineers; creating new ways to get to the main idea. Through these observations AMSE concludes their growing minds allow them to think outside the box and create new inventions easier than the typical graduate engineer.


They have also apply what they’ve learned from other places like struggles around the world like walking very far for water to drive them to  create ideas that help it become easier. Although unable to built certain expensive parts, they think of everyday things they can use to make a struggle into a conviency. Ultimately, these students can reach a decision and has a strategy that is not through creating typical part of the engineering, but ideas that drive them. Along the way, they’ve worked individually and with others to communicate skillfully as they argue from evidence and work toward a data-driven decision–demonstrating that they’ve mastered key engineering habits of mind.


Women and Engineering

International Women’s Day was celebrated  on March 8  to  celebrate women’s equality for 100 years, but what about the women in engineering. Although there is a substantial growth of women in engineering compared to 1980, there is still only  14% of female engineers in the United States, which is a shockingly  low amount. Due to the small amount of women in engineering it  urges young girls that enjoy engineering to step up and pursue it without second thoughts.

The United States also steps up in trying to encourage women into  the engineering field by creating Women Engineering  Mentor-ship programs and adjusting the K- 12 STEM to become appealing for girls. According to AMSE, there is now around 20% of women currently applied in an engineering major and soon to graduate into the world of engineering.

Study shows that women needs to slowly get introduced into engineering to gain confidence when going against the stereotypical thought of engineering as masculine.  Many tech companies; however, has showed support by applying different strategies that celebrates women engineers in their  industry. Women can beat the odds and succeed in the engineering field, if they put their mind to it..

The Humanoid

A robotics company, Boston Dynamics recently unveil one of their innovative robots, the Atlas robot. The robot personifies human movements throughout different terrains, demonstrate maneuvers for catching itself after falling and opening various doors. Although the developers have pushed it around countless of times in the famous demonstration video on youtube, the Atlas robot remarkably gets back up without the use of human control or help.


This humanoid robot which does not only mimic human actions but replicate the certain joint and makeup of humans,as well. The compact and light design can be seen walking around untethered and in complete control of its movements. This robot can walk through snow, maneuvering around objects, and correcting its balance. However, the movement are not super smooth through terrain like snow it can be mistaken as someone who is intoxicated, but it does not fall down. It uses sensors in its body and legs to balance and other sensors in its head to avoid obstacles, conquer the terrain, help with navigation and manipulate objects.


The motive for these robots are still unknown and can be left to buyer’s imagination.This technologically advanced robot is definitely meant for the outdoors. Boston Dynamics describes it to have “specialized for mobile manipulation.The design was said to have took years to build to be electrically powered and hydraulically actuated.

Line of Watches

Smartwatches are the trend of 2016 according to techRepublic.  They have been showcased all over CES (Consumer Electronics Show) signifying its successful technology transition for 2016. The appeal comes from the line of consumer wearables continuing to trend for the years to come.These watches are now being sold through various companies like Apple, Samsung, and etc. The smart watches are the new accessories for phones for better accessible use.

The smartwatches can showcase not only time but offer multiple use .Big companies like Samsung and Apple have adopted this idea and found a new way to make millions by having it specially designed watch to sync with their cell phones. This has attracted more consumers and is currently rising in popularity compared to the pebble smartwatch, which was deemed the superior smartwatch of 2015 by Smartwatch Group. However, the Apple watch and Samsung Gear G2 is following close behind.

As smartwatches allow more usage, health monitoring and phone calls are just by the wrist. The shift of pressing against a cellphone to your ear is now shifting to phone calls with your watch. Big companies are slowly shifting consumers buy both their cell phones and smartwatches by growing this trend and generating new ones every year.
